Absence seizures occured with hyperventilation
As we can see in this video, this child asked to make hyperventilation, which is provacation test for Absence seizures....
We can see that the child after seconds of hyperventilation, he stoped suddenly, and when the examiner talked to him, he was not aware, or able to speak... after this he resumed his conciousness and as if nothing had happened..
This type of seizures usually missed by parents, and if you even try to say that the child is convulsing, they will say no seizures at all, as the usual picture of seizures in our mind is that the child is contracting all of his limbs and falling like a wood on the ground, with bitting of his tongue....
Those child usually develop their symptoms by school age, with declining in their school achievement if not treated.... and the usual complain from teachers is that the child is not concentrating in the class, and he lapse many times per day, or neglegting the teacher if she spoke to him,,,, but in the fact the child is sick and not here...
Diagnosis can be made easily by EEG with provocation test.... and before this we can do clinical test to see if the child will enter in the attack or not, as shown in the video..
Prognosis is excellent in most of cases, with antiepileptic drugs like Ethosoxamide or sodium valproate....

EEG showing typical brain activity during Absence attack, provocated by hyperventilation

Generalized EEG activity in form 3 spike and wave spikes/second: typical for absence seizures

Characteristic EEG activity for Absence seizures, the child developed the attack during the test, provocated by photic and hyperventilation
